What our clients are saying

  • Sydney V

I had the most incredible time on the Winter Wasatch tour. The day spent snowshoeing was so beautiful--glittery snow and fresh animal tracks. Felt a bit like a winter fairy tale. Our guide was amazing, sharing so much local knowledge about the area we were in.
The group was fantastic on our ski day, and it felt like a real community vibe. Mavens creates a really special trip that blends adventure and relax time perfectly. Can't wait to book next season"

  • Molly L

Our group of 6 had a great time exploring Moab and surrounding canyons with Outdoor Mavens. Our guide Traci put together a fabulous trip that included amazing hikes, canyoneering, rappelling , bicycling, and stargazing.

  • Alan S

We asked Mavens to tailor a program for us that included hiking through Bears Ears National Monument, Canyonlands National Park, and the environs around Arches National Park. Outdoor Mavens took care of everything. Our adventure included canyoneering, exquisite hikes, bicycling along the Colorado River, and a great VRBO.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I meet my guide?

This trip originates in Salt Lake City, UT. Please make arrangements to fly in and out of SLC. Your guide will pick you up the morning of Day 1 at your hotel in downtown Salt Lake City.

Which hotel should I stay in Salt Lake the night before our trip?

We can suggest our favorites: Little America, Salt Lake Plaza Hotel, and Evo Hotel.

Will there be enough room for my suitcase in the group vehicle?

Yes, you are welcome to bring a normal suitcase on this trip. Our vehicles will accommodate one piece of luggage per guest, plus your day hiking backpack.

What are the temps in Park City during our trip?

Please feel free to check the Park City NOAA forecast

What do we need for the hot spring day?

Our adventure to the hot spring is walk up—no hiking required. You will need a bathing suit, towel, layers for the cold, and yourself. We will provide lunch and hot drinks on this day.

I’ve never been snowshoeing is that ok?

Yes. 100% OK. The snowshoeing excursion is crafted with the beginner in mind. Please note we will be walking over uneven terrain in the snow. Pack proper winter layers.

How many people are coming on this trip?

Our guest list has 9 spaces, first come first served. This is an all gendered trip. All humans are welcome on this trip and therefore the accommodation will be a co-ed sleeping arrangement. Bring a partner, bring your bestie, let’s enjoy the winter together as a crew!

What should I bring for winter clothes?

We suggest packing a variety of layers (re: puffer, fleece layer, tights, knit hat, shorts). Layers can be shed as the day warms up. Poly-blends are great for hiking as they wick sweat away from the body. Cozy clothes (sweater, sweat pants) are nice to have for time around the house.

I don’t do alot of skiing, will there be appropriate terrain for me to ski?

Yes! This trip is designed to be inclusive to all ability levels. Our ski day can be tailored to the experience you are desiring. You are welcome to take a lesson with an accredited ski guide on mountain. Otherwise we will plan to ski a variety of beginner and intermediate terrain as a crew. You can also spend time solo skiing in bounds.

When does the trip conclude on the final day?

This trip ends at 11am, on the final day listed. We can drop you off where you need to be in SLC, or at the SLC airport.

I can no longer attend the hiking retreat, what is your cancellation policy?
91+ days prior to trip start date: Full refund, less deposit
61–90 days prior to trip start date: 25% of total trip cost refundable
60 days or fewer prior to trip start date: Trip cost is non-refundable

Should I purchase travel insurance?

We 100% encourage you to purchase travel insurance! Things happen, and we want to make sure your investment is protected.
